The Touch Series by Airicka Phoenix
Before Fallon was
created to destroy. Before love became the ultimate weapon of
destruction. There was Amalie and the horror that started a revolution
that tore the fabric of humanity, of everything standing in the balance
between power, hope and survival.
Amalie has one wish, one gnawing desire — she wants to die.
She wants to leave this world behind with its pain and darkness. She wants to finally breathe. But Amalie is a prisoner, a disease, not fit for life. She is unwanted, unnatural. She is defective, something useless and broken. Her own mother hadn’t wanted her. Her father hated her. The world shunned her and the only person she had ever loved, truly and with all her heart and soul, couldn’t stand the sight of her, couldn’t stand the thought of ever being with her. She repulsed him. Her insanity disgusted him. He’d forgotten her. He’d left her behind, deserted and abandoned her to a madman hell bent on crushing her, stealing her soul and shattering her will.
But what if she’s finally given hope? A reason to live? Can Amalie finally accept the hand offering so much for so little in return? Can she love again when she has nothing left to give?
Can she finally be free?

I assumed I was human.
I assumed wrong.
I dream of death and warm blood on my hands. I dream of the day I burn the world to the ground. I dream of the day
I will finally die.
Running is something my mother taught me to do very well. I never knew why until the night I cause an earthquake and meet Isaiah. My shadow. My protector. My other half. I need him. I need his blood. He is the only one who can keep me hidden from the man who created me. The man who created
the monster.
The world is depending on me not to fall in love. But what happens when the temptation becomes too great and falling is my only option? Can I live knowing I will destroy the world because his touch is the only thing keeping me alive?
And how can I trust someone as lost as I am?
Touch Passion. Touch Power. Touch Smoke!

i
don't think there's anything more exciting than finding a honest to
goodness great young adult novel that has nothing to do with sexuality
or finding love. I've read past novels by Airicka Phoenix - i love them
because they're just so different from one book to the next. So it's no
surprise that i wanted to read her Touch series - only i wasn't
expecting it to be so engaging, nor did i know that i was getting into a
young adult genre (yeah, it's a big thing with me since i have a
tendency of carefully choosing which books i read, mostly to avoid me
dnf'ing books).
So
yeah, wow. Amazing. I wish i could say that there were parts i didn't
like about this book, but i can't. It really made me think of the Percy
Jackson novels by Rick Riordan (i promise you, the books were a heck of a
lot better than the movie that they flopped on). It had everything i
love about young adult genres - adventure, love that is representative
of adolescents, realism and the snarkiness that we tend to forget
adolescents have (although with my daughter, i can't forget that at all
since she's got a sassiness to her that makes me shake my head more
often than not).
The
added bonus that i got with this book was the paranormal aspects that
you're not aware of until at 1/3 into the book and you never do get to
know what they are until you get to almost the end. But it's the kind of
suspense that makes you more than a little curious to find out what is
so special about Fallon and why she finds herself so drawn to Isaiah.
I'll admit that i thought that this boy... man?... was at least in his
late 20s, early 30s, and thought to myself... 'well then... we have this
16 year old, almost 17 year old attracted to a much older man. Alright.
I can get on board. *sees both kiss in a odd sort of way* well hell! I
never saw that coming. *thinks a few seconds* wait!??! How old is
Isaiah?? This bloke had better be much younger than i think he is!!'
horrible thoughts, right??! I can gladly say that it's totally legit!
Hooray *cue in the sigh of relief and fan girling*
Yeah.
I'm an odd cookie, but i know what i like and Touching Smoke by Airicka
Phoenix: totally on my gush worthy list and up there amongst what i
like.

the
second book in the Touch series by Airicka Phoenix brings you back in
time to Amalie's life with her father and her love story with Isaiah.
Here's the kicker: while you may not need to have read the previous book
in the series, it does give you an idea on the why's and the who's. Who
is Isaiah? Why was he created? Who is Amalie? Why does Garrison do the
things that he does towards Amalie? Who are the kids that Garrison
creates? And why in the world does he do the things in the name of
science?
There
was a lot of questions answered in this book - it's a bit hard not to
have had them answered when most of the questions i had following
Touching Smoke all had to do with Amalie, Isaiah and Fallon and why
them. It was also a story that was touching. Showed you what strength is
and especially, shows you that monsters can be closer than anyone can
have ever imagined. But most of all, it showed you how much a person can
endure and just what it'll take to break them.
I
don't know how these two ended up surviving as much as they did and at
the same time, i can only chalk it up to love and seeing a future where
things are better than the current situation that they are currently
living. This is what Amalie and Isaiah are - hope.
Now
that i know more about these two, Fallon and Isaiah make more sense.
Their attraction to one another make more sense. And i can only think
that Garrison is one real sadistic jerk who needs a real good reality
check. This book was truly captivating and i really can't wait to dive
in to the next instalment to get the rest of my questions answered.
