Chrysalis Lights by Lori Titus

Chrysalis Lights

Unexpected news reaches Bonnie Bennett in the form of one last gift from her grandmother - a lake house in the small town of Chrysalis, South Carolina. Eager to see her new property, she decides to go see the place where Grams once lived. Chrysalis has its own secrets, a heady magic, and with the coming of the northern lights, the veil between dimensions is growing thin.

Bonnie faces secrets from a past she knows little about. Why hadn’t Grams ever spoken about this town or the time that she spent there? An evil from the past has resurfaced, and it’s up to Bonnie to figure out the connection and save the life of a young witch that hangs in the balance.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Let's start this review with the obvious question: where does this book fit in the Vampire Diaries TV series timeline? Right after the series finale. So while you don't need to have seen the series to know what's going on in this book, it does help to know why Bonnie keeps traveling and her link to Enzo.

Personally having had finished watching the TV series two weeks ago for what feels like the 100th time, i was excited to get back into this world. It's a very short read, but still well developed enough that you get caught up in the story and get lost in the Mystic Falls secrecy. While not as suspenseful as i would have expected or as dark when it comes to the use of magic, this author managed to capture the true Bennett witch legacy, which i'm aware can be difficult.

I absolutely enjoyed this story and am honestly looking forward to reading the rest of the series!
